When my father came home from the Second World War he went into the family business with his father David and his brother Sy in what is called today a recycling center. Our family just called it the junkyard. My father, having a mechanical engineering background from college, along with my uncle wanted to do more. From that junk yard, in 1949, they started doing plumbing heating and eventually air conditioning. Back then the name of the business was D Katz & Sons. My grandfather passed away and the boys ended up splitting up the businesses with my uncle running the recycling center and my father taking over the mechanical side of the business doing mainly commercial work.
In the 1960's they purchased R. J. Groner Co., a company that did mainly residential plumbing, heating and cooling. They also purchased a small electrical firm, Wilkins Electric.
I went into business with my father in 1982, at which time my father ended his business relationship with my Uncle Sy and my Uncle closed the electrical side of the business, running the recycling center from that point on which still had the name D. Katz & Sons. We had gone from a major new construction commercial mechanical contracting firm to a mixture of commercial and residential plumbing, heating, and cooling. My father and I worked together at R. J. Groner Co. until he retired at the age of 72 in 1990. By that time I had become president and general manager of R.J. Groner Co. My name is Michael Katz.
Welcome to our website.
Over the years since then we have became the premier HVAC and plumbing service company in Northeastern Pennsylvania, serving mainly Monroe, Pike, Carbon, and Northampton Counties for service work and doing installations from the Lehigh Valley to the Wyoming Valley and everywhere in between. Our base of operations is still in Stroudsburg, PA across the street from the original junk yard where it all began. We are still a family owned and operated company where you will always have a live person to talk to no matter what your needs may be.
We instill in our co workers the following philosophies of business through two business pioneers, Henry Ford and Sam Walton.
“It is not the employer who pays the wages. Employers only handle the money. It is the customer that pays the wages†– Henry Ford
“There is only one boss, the customer, and he can fire everybody in the company from the President on down, simply by spending his money somewhere else. – Sam Walton
I keep both of these quotes on my office door and in my heart so that you will get the consistent experience from R. J. Groner Co. that you expect.
